Right Gas Supplier.......Please Help!
Options
Hi All,
I know the issue of Gas and Electricity is something everyone is taking a close look at at the moment. I have read the article on this website and am aware of bodies such as Uswitch etc.
However, I was hoping for genuine advice from people on the Forum based on "personal" experience and a more practical input.
My gas supplier are Npower. I live in a four bedroom house with 7 people. Our yearly bill is about £1100 a year. This will obviously go up with the price rise.
Couple of years ago we were with British Gas.
We are on Npower's Standard Tariff where we pay on receipt of bill.
Our current rate (last bill Aug 08) is 135 at 6.688p, next 5265 at 1.990p
I am currently only looking at gas NOT duel fuel.
Can anyone please tell me if I should consider changing my gas supplier and if so, which company should I look at and which tariff?
Thank you very much.
Regards,
Jay

The 1.99p price is a very good price at the moment. The wholesale price of gas that the suppliers are buying is around 70p/therm = 2.38p/unit (1 therm=29.307 units).
The large cost for the first 135 units is nothing more than a standing charge by another name.
Go and look on the reputable switch sites (like the one on this site) but drill down to look at the detail of the tariff and do your own calculations on how many units you use. Some suppliers may consider your usage too high for a domestic tariff, you will need to look at business gas contract if this is so.0 -
After putting in my my details on www.energyhelpline.com and moneysupermarket.com, they returned British Gas' Click Energy 5 Tariff, which is an online Tariff, as the cheapest supplier for me.
The breakdown is 5.968p for the first 670 kWh per quarter, and 2.504p thereafter.
Strangely though, after speaking to energyhelpline.com on the phone they said that my current tariff with Npower is the cheapest for me and I can save £93 a year if I pay by Direct Debit.
Britsh Gas' online tariff is obviously due to rise.
Can anyone please clarify things for me and give their input on whether it is worth switching from Npower?
Thank you.
