Today I was sent a fine from TFL for £1000

My 2001 VW Camper van was seen on the road, I phoned them, and to cut along story short their computer had thrown a wobbly and a number of VANS had their weight set higher than they acually were.

HOWEVER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
included with their fine was a document detailing the following

"4 October 2010 vehicles affected by Low emission Zone"

Large Vans. Diesel engined vehicles between 1.205 tonnes unladen and 3.5 tonnes Gross Vehicle Weight and motor caravans and ambulances between 2.5 tonnes and 3.5 tonnes Gross Vehicle weight

See http://www.tfl.gov.uk/roadusers/lez/vehicles/2535.aspx

My logbook states motorhome 2.1 tonnes therefore I will have to pay £200/day under the 1.205 to 3.5 tonnes rule but am exempt under the motorhomes rule.

A girl a TFL says I WILL HAVE TO PAY; I told her I will be writing to my MP does anyone have a similar problem or experience or am I the only one being ripped off yet again. A mile down the road they can have whatever vehicle they want as long as they don't drive into LONDON of course.

This is all getting a bit ridiculous i've heard of £50 fine but £1000 ????

    You don't have to pay.

Your camper is not a lorry, they've made a mistake.

Vans don't get the £200 a day tax until 2010.

It could be worth going to the Daily Mail with this, it's just the sort of thing they like.

OK i'm calmer now; from the begining

I own a 2001 VW Caravelle 2.5 Diesel professionally converted Camper Van.

My Log Book states WEIGHT 2188Kg : Body Type MOTOR CARAVAN : Taxation Class DIESEL CAR

    09:00 8/9/2008

I receive a letter from Transport for London (TFL) stating that vehicles over 3.5 tonnes are now eligible for a fine of £1000 if the owner does not pay the daily charge of £200 to enter the zone. (Unfortunately I live 100 meters into the zone).

In this first instance they will issue only a warning, but to comply I must either; Modify;upgrade to a newer vehicle; avoid travelling in the zone; pay the charge

    09:30

I phone TFL; who advise me to contact VOSA to sort out my vehicle details (0870 number of course, cost a fortune)

    10:00

Spend 20 mins talking to VOSA 0870 number being passed about from department to department to someone who knows about the London Emission Zone (LEZ). They tell me "nothing to do with them" and give me another 0870 DVLC number.

    10:30

Talk to to DVLC who confirm my details and say that they have had a number of these calls today and that TFLs data must be wrong. I am then advised to go back to TFL.

    11:00

Call TFL again and they admit they have had a system error whereby the weights of vehicles are being incorrectly stated. I am advised to call back on friday 12/9/2008 to ensure that my details have been corrected to stop this happening again.

    11:30

I read the little booklet they send out detailing what coming !

The trouble is as of 4 October 2010; I don't know if I will be able to drive my camper as the rules state vans over the 1.205 tonnes weight will have to comply; but also state Motor Caravans under 2.5 tones don't.

    12:00

I call TFL again to clarify my situation; the advisor tells me that I will have to pay 200/day if I want to continue to use my van.

I said I will be writing to my MP and probably standing on top of Buckingham Palace with Fathers for Justice, I'm just looking for members to join me !

But seriously, this is an issue which will effect many people; and is a ticking bomb sitting quite steathily in the background.

OK, i've now spent a tenner going in circles because of their error; but the wider problem that comes from this that I'm sure that not everyone is on top of the fact that as of 2010 many will be trouble.

It's a camper so you should be exempt.

Imagine what this short sighted farce has done for businesses withen the M25, £200 tax a day just to use your own lorry...

As ever it will be the consumer who will be hit with added charges to sponsor unneeded new lorries and vans...

Don't think the Government were to blame for this legislation. It was crazy Red Ken's idea.

    Quick update

Today I emailed James Cleverly the London Assembly Member for Bexley and Bromley, whose office is investigating my plight with TFL. My issues have been prioritised as Urgent and yes a top level TFL offical did call me today to say they had been contacted by JCs office and are considering my case very seriously. Blood*y Hell I thought they would have all the rules cast in stone by now, apparantly its a 600 page document and needs a consultant to verify my position (Well me and thousands of others who own Motorhomes in the M25). Wow Citizen Smith Power to the people im on a one man crusade to boldy go .....................

Ps Ill publish the transcripts of our conversation when they come to a conclusion; and if necessary contact the motor home groups, AA etc and
Yes BrookerDave the press will be informed !!!!!!!

And then Martin can come up with a formula to kick their As** on TV this one needs media :money: :money: :money:
