Adsl to Cable adapter, bought the wrong router!

My brother bought a
netgear wireless cable modem - it does not have a phoneline socket in it..
but we currently have virgin broadband (but the telephone line one, ADSL), we have an existing router but wanted to replace it so we can get wireless in the house,
As we have already opened the packaging and stuff we don't want to send it back, so I was wondering if there was such thing as an adapter that you can plug into the phoneline and then can connect a cable router to?

Did you buy it online or in store?
I haven't heard of an adapter personally.Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!

I bought it from play.com after being recommended it by a pc world salesman,
basically he asked my brother do we have bt internet or virgin, so my brother said virgin...so he recommended Netgear rangemax
but the question the pc world guy was meant to have said was do we have adsl or cable (as the guy didn't relise that not all virgin bb is cable)0 -
You can buy an ADSL modem with ethernet output. But it's a bit of a long way for a shortcut. And you'll need two power sockets to power the whole contraption once it's all connected together.
Something like this would do:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/D-Link-ADSL2-Ethernet-Modem_W0QQitemZ280262470974QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item280262470974&_trkparms=72:12|39%3A1|66%3A2|65%3A12|240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
or this:

I'd send it back and get the one you need, you are well within your rights, rather than mess about with adaptersbarginboyrob wrote: »I bought it from play.com after being recommended it by a pc world salesman,

As TT and others have said, change it, otherwise it'll be a total hassle. There is no such thing as a cable to ADSL adapter.0
