Hello, I am going mad! Last month I moved house and county to live nearer family, as this was a council exhange it had to be completed within a certain period of time. Due to this my partner moved back into his mums to continue working, whilst looking for work here. Now, tax credits told us different things., first, i had to claim as single, then another chap said we can claim as a couple, then another confirmed no, we were counted as single. So, that done I now recieve ctc for my kids, and other half recieves zilch. But, income support say its a temporary seperation so unlikely to get help with rent and council tax. Although all the forms state a partner lives with you. So once i have paid rent and council tax, utilities i have about £50, part of which is used for transport as well as food. So how can one agency say i am single, another not, what am I? ! ? please help!!!!

From what you have said, you are still a couple, seperated by circumstances rather than a relationship breakdown.
Income Support are correct.
For benefit purposes, you are a couple.0 -
Aha, then why are the tax credites refusing to accept that? I don't want to be claiming state benefits unfairly, I'm just cross cos no one seems to know what to do!!0
