NHBC Problems - Can we take out equivilent cover?

Hi all,

We are in the process of purchasing our first house and are having a nightmare with getting hold of the original NHBC certificate.
The property is a reposession and the repo's solicitor doesn't have the certificate to pass on to our solicitors - who are saying if they don't get it then they will not let us purchase the house! :eek:

I have spoken to NHBC about getting a duplicate certificate who said they couldn't find the property on their system.. we have been told by the repo's solicitor that the property does have one.

If it turns out there is no way we can get hold of this certificate is there any way to take out cover (property is ~3yr old) that will satisfy our solicitors needs ??

If so is this likely to be really expensive ??

    In whose capacity are your solicitor telling you they will not let you buy? If it is on behalf of your lender, then OK, but otherwise, don't let them talk to you like that.

    Assuming it is not your lender, then consider the extent of the risk you would take on and shoulder it yourself for another £5000 to £10000 off the price.

    By redoubled efforts. Would it not be easier In that case for the government
    To dissolve the people
    And elect another?
  • They usually recommend that a copy of the NHBC certificate be put with the Central Heating Boiler for some reason. Have they checked there to see if there is a copy?
    I am a Mortgage Consultant and don't like to be told what I can and can't put in a signature so long as it's legal and truthful.
