Water Company-where next???

I moved into a new build just over a year ago- immediately I contacted water and electricity suppliers to set up accounts. The electricity account took over 10months!!! to set up and left me in quite significant arrears.

The water acount is still not set up! They sent a DD form which I filled in and sent and they lost, I was p'd off about this and complained (in April) they said they were investigating and they would conclude their investigations by 6th May, on 6th May I got a letter saying they needed to do further investigations and would write to me again by 6th June, this went on until 6th August.

I then decided to contact the Consumer council for water, who said they would take up my case, that was almost the last I heard from them despite four email reminders.

Offwat said this isn't their remit but did contact ccwater for me, they said oh yes, we are dealing with it.... nothing since.

I am at a loss as to what to do now, I'm worried I'll get a huge bill soon despite my best efforts.

Any ideas?

You complained and kicked up a fuss instead of just completing another form and/or making reasonable payments until it was sorted yet your worried about a large bill

What do you expect? Free water until you feel like it for what is a simple admin mistake at worst, or possibly lost in the post....

Your a chancer, get the DD set up and pay what you owe
  • So you think it's acceptable for them to lose a completed direct debit form? I certainly dont.

How can I make payments if I can't even set up an account? You clearly don't have the attention span to read the above post properly. Am I supposed to just send random cheques to the water company?

I am offended that you are calling me a chancer after I have contacted the water company several times and not had a satisfactory reply other than a standard "we are looking at it" letter.

Maybe you can suggest how to set up a direct debit without an account???
  • I don't think it is acceptable that they lost your form, but I think I would have been making sure I was putting away the money which I should be paying them so that when they finally got the account sorted out, I had the money to cover the arrears.

Send them a new direct debit form

Problem solved, not exactly rocket science

In life mistakes occur, in the scheme of things losing a DD mandate isnt exactly worthy of the overreaction you seem to have had which coincidentally gets you out of paying for services your getting

Well whats happend to the money that you would have paid? It's not like you're going to get a bill for payment upfront, it's previous payments you would have had to have paid anyway. So in theory the money should be about somewhere.

I agree with the other posters. The sensible thing would have been to put some money aside in anticipation of a bill. You must have done something with the money that you would otherwise have been spending on your water bill?

It's unfortunate and inconvenient, but it's not something that's come out of the blue. You know you have to pay for it.
  • Hey kids before you all start thinking I'm chancing my arm not having to pay for anything, I put away almost £2000 a month in savings, it's not paying the bill that's the problem. I am irritated that I have done my very best to set up an account, the water company are totally ignoring me now yet I know they will ask for the full amount in arrears. Is that good customer service? I have been asking them to let me pay them since they lost my DD form but they have been "investigating" and I cannot set up an accout until they have finished that.
LinasPilibaitisisbatman vbmenu_register("postmenu_14029611", true); you are possibly the most unhelpful, negative, narcissistic poster on here so I have put you on my ignore list.

Don't worry about helping anymore, this bunch of posters are about as helpful as the water company who are ignoring me and the consumer council who are also ignoring me despite being created to help people who are having problems with their water company.
  • When Lady Freda selected our new pad, the gas and electric took about ten months to set up. I receieved a discount of both of 'em.

    As for the water ...

Poor old you having to earn interest on money you otherwise wouldn't have!

If you've got the money then whats the problem? You're actually gaining fom them taking ages so you can hardly complain!

There are really more important things to be worrying about.
  • When you eventually set up an account you think all is OK. Then 3 years later you get a bill from another water company for "measured drainage". Well this is what we got!
