House buying schemes

  • We sold our house using one of these companies earlier this year (again not renting back). We needed to relocate quickly for my OH's job and were also desperate to clear some debts. The house was also in need of major refurbishment.

We spoke to about 10 different companies, unfortunately it was just as all the BTL products were being withdrawn, so a couple pulled out straight away. One wanted us to pay upfront for a survey, and were annoyingly persistent, with a different price for this nearly every day, as long as we agreed that day. The guy who phoned most frequently was also an incredibly smarmy salesman type.

Two others instructed solicitors without even seeing the house, we never did find out which company one set of documents was for.

The person we sold to in the end came to see the house himself, made an offer there and then and instructed and paid for the survey immediately. He also attended when the survey was carried out. He reduced his offer slightly when the results came back (not entirely unexpected) but it was still fair.
We achieved 60% of its value, but we were able to relocate, clear all our debts and now have savings.

A house on the same road, in need of updating but in better condition than ours has been on the market for a year and still is 3 months after we moved. I have also noticed that prices in the area have dropped massively since then.

Sorry have waffled on a bit but wanted to give our experience
