Calor Gas Heater

Options
Our place is freezing and We have Oil Heating, which is soooooooooooooo expensive. So we are thinking of getting a Calor Gas Portable heater. But have never had one before, I've heard they are quite economical to run,

Does anyone know the best place to buy a heater and Gas?

How long does the Gas last for?

I would really be grateful of any advice

Thanks Donna

We had one some years back.
We got the bottle from a local Ironmongers and the bigger ones used to last us about a week or so.

One thing about these though is that they do cause condendsation so be aware of that before you go for it.

I still think they are a great form of heating though :)

If the bottle is only gonna last about a week. It wouldn't be worth the hassle as a large bottle (15kg ) looks as though it costs between £15-£20.

How long did you have it on for? Was it on all day?

Yes the calor gas heaters are very efficient & economical. I had one years ago before I had central heating. In the winter when the weather was really cold a large gas bottle would last for an average of 2 weeks I found, but average in the autumn/not so cold winter days was 4 weeks. This was having the heater on in the evenings after work & for most of the day at weekends.

Most hardware/ironmongers shops will sell the heaters & replacement gas bottles & places such as Wickes & B&Q may do them too.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

Not all day, I would say about 10 hours a day.
Ours had the equivalent of "3 bars" or burners which were
on full so i guess you can get more out of a bottle with a lower setting.

If your going for one of those you must make sure the room is well ventilated. IMHO good for boost heat but not for leaving on for long periods. As has been said condensation can be a problem.
