Annoying on-screen icon on Virgin Media TV

Hi,
My Dad has got Virgin Media TV and just recently he's noticed that when he turns his V+ box on he gets a little on-screen icon in the top left corner of the TV which I think look likes a mute symbol (it looks like a speaker with a red cross through it). The only way we've found to get rid of it is to press the V+ button and then the Return button.

Anyone know what it is, or how to get rid of it?

Thanks.

We get it too sometimes - does your Dad's tele actually go mute? Ours does and the only way we can rid of it is to reset the box.

It doesn't appear when we turn the box on, it just randomly pops up while we're watching tv (about once every 2 months). Very annoying and I have no idea how to make it stop.

That's the funny thing - although it looks like a mute symbol, the audio is still active.
