The more expensive version does here.

Zens are decent, it would be a good starter entry into multimedia players. :)

If you need any tips for getting material to view let me know. ;)

No, my comment stands as you have just proven..lol. Mp4 does play on lots of things but ipods don't play lots of formats.

But mp4s are not their format; they're just a format.
Saying that you can convert files is fine and dandy but you still have to waste time converting and no serious user would bother.

Where are all these files coming from that don't need converted? Does the Cowon play DVDs or something?
Go on any audiophile type forum and no one uses ipods. They certainly don't all use Cowons but something closer to its level.

I really don't think audiophiles using something is a recommendation. The Cowons look OK, but when you say that, it makes them sound like an expensive waste of money.

It's semantics. They have adopted it as one of their primary video formats. The original point still stands, Ipods are restrictive.

Yes, the Cowon A3 does play DVD's without conversion. Before you ask how look it up, research a little. I'm not wasting my time explaining it to someone who doesn't actually care and just wants to be right.

As for the rest of your comments, I can understand where you are coming from as a pedestrian user. If your player gives you all you need and you are happy with it then cool, I'm just offering the next step up.

If you ever want to take that step send me a PM and I'll be happy to help. It's a favourite topic of mine and I've converted so many people I could start my own religion. :D

Far enough, I guess it is a semantic argument. But all players have their restrictions.

Well, I'm very sorry to have wasted your time. My point was though, where are all these files which will play on a Cowon, but not an iPod, coming from?

That's a kind offer and I appreciate it, but I'm pretty happy with my iPod. It's really easy to bounce rough mixes down with Logic Pro, send them to iTunes, and then stick them on there. I don't do much video watching with it, but when I do I can just use Video Express to convert DVDs really quickly without tying up my Mac, though I'm more likely to put them on my PSP than my iPod. Music is my main thing, and I remember reading awhile ago that Cowon didn't do gapless playback; have they sorted this yet?

But I agree that if what you use works for you, then keep using it.

  • I would say avoid Ipod's in general. Not so much for the ipods themselves (although a previous poster is right, you have to use a converter for a lot of files types) but for the fact you can then avoid the horrendously clunky and irritating itunes.

I would go for a Zen.
