Has anyone done their trailer test? Gonna have to do mine ....

How much did lessons cost you? I know everyone is different but how many lessons did you need?

Any other advice?

Thanks...

Jeez, I didn't know you needed to take a trailer test (just looked it up) since 1997.

Well, nothing in the test will prepare you for a snaking trailer, only that you will suddenly (in about the space of 2 seconds) find that you're the only vehicle for 200 yards.

Enjoy the learning to reverse section.

Fortunately I am old enough not to need to. I don't know the cost but I do know someone who was a quqlified 4x4 instructor thought it would be a breezee...he was sadly mistaken. Sp put your homework in on this before sitting it. Good luck.

LANTRA might be worth a shout.

Its basically the same test as you have to take to drive an articulated lorry - Category E.

Ahh, LANTRA, that brings back memories. I trained the LANTRA people on ATV's (at one event, there were about half a dozen around the country attended by the manufacurers) who then trained and licensed the trainers to train people to get their licence/certificate.

I then had to go on a training course to be given my licence/certificate.

It was a weird situation, a bit like a 5 year kid telling you how to drive.

Are you sure you need to do it?

I had a look around when I was thinking about getting a caravan.

I passed my test in 1999 and I think i could tow a caravan as long as the combined weight of the car and van was not over 3.5 tonnes.

The explanations were very bad though and cryptic.

I used www.whattowcar.co.uk, www.ukcampsite.co.uk and lots of googling.

You're allowed a gross train weight up to 3500 OR a gross trailer weight up to 750. So sometimes you can tow more with a smaller vehicle than a large one

About the only instructors who do B+E training are LGV ones so expect them to charge quite a bit...

Yes i am sure I need to do it :)
Passed my driving in 98 and now want to tow a horse trailer

I have just had a quote from a LGV place and yes it does sound pricey - they want £150+VAT for 4 hours.
    The actual test is £105

    Sounds reasonable to me.

Double the price of car lessons, I take it that's using their towing vehicle + trailer?

Most likely. Be grateful you're not taking HGV lessons. It's about £1500 for a 5 day course.
