First time renter worried about credit check

Hi, I was wondering if anyone had any advice?
My boyfriend & I are going to be applying to rent a property through an agent & I am worried if I will pass the credit checks. I have no current debt outstanding, however 2 years ago I defaulted on a credit card and fell behind with some other payments. The defaulted debt was cleared in full 2 years ago but will remain on my history for another 4 years.
Is this likely to prevent the agents allowing me to rent the property?
Thanks,
Helen

Thanks for that link. I've already check credit expert & know the only thing on there is the default. Does anybody know what it is renting agents look for as 'bad credit'?0

Hi Helen,
I am in a simular situation, where my credit check wasn't the best (as i'd forgotten about a bill, but then paid it off after using CreditExpert.co.uk). I was told by teh letting agency if you can find a Garantor that can back you and would be willing to pay the Full amount of Rent should anything go wrong, then your usually gonna be ok.
Hope that helps and good luck with the new place.
