How much credit can you get?

in Credit cards
Hi everyone,
I am not sure if anyone will know the answer to my question, but from reading other threads it seems that there is loads of experts in here.
I am wondering, how much credit IN TOTAL can a person get? Is there any way to calculate it? I know that how much you earn, how many credit cards you have already and what is your payment history all affects this and you can get credit rating on Experian, but that doesn't really tell you how much can you borrow.
I earn 22k pa, but I only started earning this 3 months ago. Before I earned £15k. I never missed a payment, but I already have few credit cards. I have:
£2.3k on Halifax, which is 0% till 15th January
£0-100 on Nationwide, which I only use when I go abroad or shop for something I know I can repay the same month (just for security, like flights etc)
New Tesco card with which I only pay for groceries (just to get extra points)
AND
£4.5k on MBNA I had to take out in my name to bail out my husband as he couldn't get any more credit and we needed balance transfer (0% till Sep 09)
In Nov I need to apply for another 0% credit card to pay for my Februarie's holiday, but the Halifax will not be repaid yet as my savings will not be released until the very end of December. But I don't want to be refused as I know that has very negative impact on my ratings. Anyone know how I stand and what are my chances please?
Thank you

I got something like 30k of cards on a wage of 23k, so you're probably good for a couple more yet. The main thing is not applying for them very frequently - once every 6 months or so is normally recommended...0

Hi, I got 34k on an income of 30k, all unsecured, and this is why im in the mess I am now, it was too easy, for example, Littlewoods gave me a limit of 100 to start and within 24 months this was 2300, Cahoot gave me initial 3k then upped my limit to 9k
Wish they had been more strict now. (not saying its not my fault but it hasnt helped)

Thank you.
I think that might be problem then... I only got the MBNA & Tesco's in August...
But I only need £900 for the holiday which I can repay within 3 months, so I don't need SUPERB card like the Halifax was with 15 months 0%. Anyone has any idea where it would be the safest to apply for one now?0 -

Yep, my hubby also run up credit cards, he lived a livestyle above his limits. You don't realise the monies are not yours at first:o0 -
Do you have one from your bank?
Your bank is normally the best shot you have at getting credit...although, that said, if it's been 5 months and you only have a couple of cards, I'd have thought you'd be fine with most applications..0 -

I think you need to distinguish between "want" and "need".

Sure you're not just continuing this with expensive holidays..?0 -

Yes, Nationwide is my bank because they have no charges on foreign withdrawals - so I have debit & credit card from them.0 -

I have 2k (of my own debt) on Halifax and 2k in my savings, so I have (theoreticaly) no debt of my own. This holiday was my dream and I can afford it, just the payment is earlier then the monies are available.. Did you not read the previous post?0
