minimum payment 1 day late

Hi, I was wondering if anyone can help me.

I did a BT onto my halifax cc, 0% for 10 months. Anyways my second payment I missed by 1 day. I know it's all my own fault for leaving it so late so I don't need anyone to have a go at me about it coz I've definately learnt from it!!

Anyways although my payment was 1 day late on my statement it actually shows up on my bank as going out on the day it was due. Now do you think it's worth me trying to ring up and ask them to take off the £12 late payment charge as I have on my bank statements that it went out on the day due?

Does anybody else have trouble paying their Halifax payments? I tried to do it online and did not understand their site one little bit and tried phoning aswell and didnt have much luck with that although to be honest I cant remember the reason why now.

I'm off to pay this months minimum right now and then theres no chance of this happening again!!

  • It's not the £12 you should be worrying about, it's possibly losing the 0%.
Leaving your bank on the day is no good, they say it has to be cleared to them by a certain date.
You need to call them and grovel, be as calm as possible and say it was a slight oversight, there's no guarantees - just hope they give you another chance.

You need to contact them as soon as possible because it's highly likely they've withdrawn the promotional rate and put you on their standard interest rate. See this post made earlier this evening...

It'll tell you on the reverse of your statement how long to allow for each of the payment methods, as I'm sure you're now aware.

There's only one way to ensure a simultaneous debit/credit, and that's to pay by direct debit...which I suggest you do from now on.
  • thankyou for your reply.

Yes ringing and grovelling is the first thing I shall be doing in the morning. I'm not good at having a go a people anyways so I'm sure I'll stay calm lol It says on my statement that next months estimated interest is £0 but I'm pretty sure they can change their mind if they want.
I'm gutted coz i've had credit cards for over a year and have never missed a payment before and always paid more than minimum.

I've just paid this months although only got the statement yesterday so I'm hoping that might help my case.

  • Thanks yorkshireboy, yes I'd read that thread before starting this one.

    I've been so stupid.
when I ring up tomorrow i'll ask about setting up a DD and then it shows them I'm not going to let it happen again.

  • Iv been told a few times that "ONE" charge is allowed to be refunded per year........

If this is your first then im prety sure they will if you eplain to then it was a fault on your part and its never happended before......
  • Yeah definitely give them a ring Bowski and explain that this is the first time you have missed the date of payment - Im sure they will allow you this blip in payment because its your first mistake and you have transfered the funds through (be it one day late). I have made this error on two occasions on two different cards but the kind customer service deapartments let me off on both occasions and waived the then £25 late fee when I explained I had not missed a payment before for each respective card. It's never happened to me since as I always ensure the minimum payment is done by Direct Debit.

    Good luck!
  • Thanks for your replies. Will let ya's know how I get on tomorrow. It's a bit naff when you know you only have yourself to blame. I hope I get someone nice on the phone tomorrow, I'm so soft haha!

This is an estimate, it takes things into consideration such as paying ontime and not coming out of a promotional period.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I always knew I should just ring up and ask but I kinda just wanted to know I was doing the right thing to give me the confidence. Sounds wierd i know, but I hate phoning people I go bright red and they cant even see me lol

Anyways just to let ya's know. I firstly asked the guy if the 0% promotion still stood with me being a day late so he had a look and they'd not taken it off, he said it was probably because they could see I'd made the payment and it was late due to it being a bank holiday. Then he asked me if i'd been charged, I said I had and he said he'd refund it. Simple as that!!! What a lovely man, he's made my day lol (i'm easily pleased haha)

I also set up a direct debit while I was on the phone so I know it deffo won't be happening again!
