Help with a train journey
Hi all
Hope someone can help. A friend is visiting in October and is thinking of travelling by train. She lives in Norfolk so will get on at Norwich and is coming to Woking (Surrey) so will have to come via London.
The cheapest fare so far that she has come up with is about £45 for a return ticket and I know there are ways to get cheaper fares but not sure how to go about it. Shes a single mum (widow) with 3 children and very little cash and is looking forward to a weekend away but that may be no cheaper than the petrol.
Can anyone give any advice / point me in the right direction to try an get a lower fare? She is travelling up on 4th October and would like to be in Woking about 1:30pm and travelling back on 5th October, needing to be back at NOrwich for about 4pm. She has no travel cards etc. Any help gratefully received

One possibility:
Norwich to London zone 1 £9 advance single on 1130 train out
London to Woking £8.40 walk on single each way
London zone 1 to Norwich £15 advance single return choice of trains
Total £40.80
That does mean arriving at Woking an hour later than she wants (230pm)
To arrive earlier the £45 looks the cheapest - and needs no advance booking0
