Yeah, around here anyway. My parents house is a 3 bedroom terrace, band A. All my friends have similar properties, all band A. Mine is three bed semi, also band A. Maybe a different story down south?
My friend had a pad in luton 3 bed , garage + garden and paid less council tax than i did in leighton buzzard 10 miles down the road in a 1 bed studio !!
differnt councils ! :mad:0 -
It goes on how much your house was worth in 1991 (the banding anyway).
Anything under £40,000 back then and it was band A. That covers 80% of homes around here I reckon!0 -
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

With all the above answers... How much will you be saving a month?0

i live in a 1 bed flat and my monthly bills are:
council tax - £70 (band a + single person occupancy discount)
elec - approx £40 (varies)
water - £15 (not metered)
contents insurance - £6
landline+broadband - £23 (talktalk)
tv licence - £12
= £166
(plus mortgage plus maintenance charge
) - around another £600
(... plus mobile phone plus health insurance plus fuel plus food plus everything else
)
hope that helps

A studio might only appear to be £100 cheaper on paper, but council tax will be less and so will heating.
As a rough rule of thumb, you'd need to spend £200-250 on bills on top of your rent.
£50 Electricity/gas
£80 Council tax (completely guessing this as it varies around the country)
£40 Water - this is on rateable value, you might be able to change it/might not (I changed mine to a meter and it's now about £10/month)
£12 TV Licence (double for the first 6 months as they like you to get ahead)
£20 Contents insurance (varies between areas)
£12 - Phone Line
£16 - Broadband

£230 before you've even thought about eating or getting to work or buying soap!
The bills won't vary much no matter what place you rent, but the smaller/cheaper the place the less heating it will require, the chances of the council tax being lower are better and insurance will be cheaper too.
cheers, this is really helpful.
i wouldn't be in london - i would be in Norwich, so not tooooo expensive, although it is becoming more popular.
so i'm thinking £200 bills, and £250 rent max and definitely living with other people.0
