Furious - cant do anything to change utilities

I have had capped power with Scottish power for the past two years I am desperate to sort out my heating bills as this finishes at the end of September BUT they will not tell me what is happening at the end of the month and I cannot change at the moment. Surely they must have to give me some indication of what is happening. I have asked them and they keep saying they dont know what tariffs will be available when my capped deal runs out, but because I am tied in til then I cant move!!! Really frustrating - anyone got any advice.

take your meter readings, useage.. start looking at other suppliers, compare prices, and your options.. i would guess that when you reach the end of the cap, you are free to move on or stay with current supplier..
call them the day it runs out, they may offer you another deal?

Have got all bills readings etc at hand. I am just concerned that I will miss out on any deals to switch just now and be left with little choice of who to move to. In general I am patient, however when on a budget these things matter as there is only so much money in the pot. If I want to leave them i have to give notice, and feel that they should allow the same respect the other way - ie what I will be getting charged from 1st October. Thanks for reply
