My dad who is 81 this month and worked all is life as been told he as cancer of the kidney, i found out he can claim for Attendance Allowance so i put a claim in and he as awarded it at the lower rate.
My questions are.
Can any1 tell me,would my dad after forfeit Care Allowance for caring for my mother (mother disabled) now that he's getting Attendance allowance or can he still claim for both.
My dad as bought an electric scooter but cant get up the steps with the ramps he got with the scooter.I was wondering is there any help that the local council can/should do to put him a concrete ramp down or will he have to pay for a concrete ramp himself.
I would be grateful for any help.

I guess you mean the Carers Premium because he cannot claim both Carers Allowance and the State Retirement pension as they are overlapping benefits. He can still claim this premium and Attendance Allowance for himself.0

I know my MIL has recently had help building a downstairs bathroom as she has severe arthritis and CCF-the money paid for the materials and half of the labour.Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!0

You need an assessment from the occupational therapist. I think my dad phoned social services and they sorted out an assessment of need. My mum and dad were both disabled and had the carers premium for each other. If they get pension credit, tell the PS that he has been awared attendance allowance as it may increase his entitlement.
If you think your dad should be middle rate attendance, dont be afraid to ask for it to be looked at again, especially if he gets any worse or needs help during the night. If you're having to help him through the night, he should be on higher.0 -

UNLIKE dla care AA has only 2 rates higher or lower0 -
My late father received AA at the lower rate and it is based on the application form and a letter from the doctors (form 2400 I think). When you fill out the form state that it is Special Rules (due to terminal illness) to speed the application through. Took about 4-6 weeks and is back dated to the date of requesting the form - not the date of application!

Would they be likely to do major alterations for someone getting AA under Special Rules?0

Hi All,
Do not want to bring doom and gloom but....
My neighbour Jim is 71 and is terminal. He also bought himself an electric scooter enquired about a ramp and informed that will be £1500:eek: The policy in Ayrshire is unless you are in a wheelchair you pay for a ramp. I hope the policy is different where you are. Contact your Social Work Dept to get an OT out.
PS Jim's son built a ramp, unfortunately Jim has only been able to use the scooter for a couple of months before it got too much for him.0 -
"Tell the PS that he as been awarded Attendance Allowance",who do you mean by PS Simpywimpy.
