The OP says she has a full time job, evening classes and a young child... sometimes its difficult to commit to a second job, particularly in that situation!

But normally I would agree with you Alan - generally "get rich quick" schemes involving the internet, ebay and what not are not very reliable, can often lose money on them, and you are better off with a second job!
  • Hi

I know this might seem harsh but why can't you get a part time job maybe in a local pub or cleaning etc.

It seems to me that people put loads of work(and time) on internet and on ebay and such like, when you would be better getting a job with a set wage rather than hoping your items on ebay sell and make a nice profit.

Sorry if this offends people just talking my mind

As ryandj says, I have a young child, work full time in the office, also work some hours at home and am studying a degree 2 nights a week in the hope that this can warrant a good payrise when I complete it! I did have a second job until I discovered I was pregnant but didn't want to work full time through the day, then work in Asda every evening while I was preggers!

No offence taken tho, and I appreciate what you are saying, selling items on ebay and such like don't guarantee a decent or regular income, its just a little bit extra now and again if your lucky. I've decided that so long as I am debt free by the time I graduate (which is only 2 years time, because I already have an HND) I'll be happy - at least then when I get my salary increase I will REALLY feel the benefit!

Until then, any little extra's from ebay, car boot sales and Quidco are just an added bonus..... :)
  • I'd still go down the dropshipping route - if done right you can find a good niche and get going with very little upfront investment.

google ' dropship forum ' for the latest news on which company to use and which ones not to !

my own fav is atsdistribution - not affiliated with these, but they do have quite a good range.

You could always bulk buy some items to car boot too ?

Never mind making extra money I think we should be taking our hat off to you, a full time job, children and hubby, working extra hours and studying for a degree, you must be a whirlwind.
trouble is there is no regular incomes, ebay is a pick and mix, just try car boots, ebay, free bingo, theres bet365, they give you £10 free, 888 company (on tv).
Might make a few quid, def worth a try just use the free money and run. x

Aw thanks mum2one - your comment made me smile! I just get so angry at myself for getting into the debt in the first place, but I was young and silly and its all self inflicted!!! Hopefully once I get my degree I'll be able to get a good salary increase and chip away at my debts quicker. I'm at around 16k just now so I'm aiming to have it paid off by the time I finish my course in 2 years time. My employers are paying for my course, but I just discovered yesterday that they pay 50% up front and the other 50% when you sucessfully complete the course which is fair enough... just means I now have to try and find £941 to pay the Uni and I can't claim back from my employer until April 2009.... there's always something waiting to bite you in the bum!
  • what about renting out a spare room, or a couch (if you don't have a spare room). Put it up on raystay or craigslist for free.
  • My sister uses our spare room at the moment, in exchange for babysitting for free while I'm at work. I'm not sure I would like a stranger living with it and there's probably no way on this earth my other half would go for that. I did rent a room to a friend when I lived on my own in my flat, worked out well because we were friends, so I wouldn't knock it if I was on my own.

Just a thought, re the £941 - can u pay them in instalements, when I did my HNC (many moons ago), I pd 1/3 of the course fees every 6 months. I know the money still got to be found but may give u a bit of breathing space.

Going to ebay I did a bulk listing of dd clothes that she has grown out of, some have got watchers, but even ebay people are spending less on. x

  • hey, re selling stuff on on ebay, the only tip i can give you is sell what you know.
ive made about 200 quid buying and selling chanel stuff- bought a pair of shoes for £55 and sold em for £100- my listing was better, i put more detail, better photos etc..
i sold a chanel skirt and bought and sold some sunglasses by chanel on there, but i guess i knew what buyers were looking for, i.e serial numbers, looking for wear on item to show they are genuinely second hand not fake etc, offered refunds.

i also am really into 1930s stuff, again as a collector myself i've been able to find glassware that i know is bagley but listed as "vintage amber glass" and sell it on as "1939 bagley rutland, pattern 3456 " etc.

its like being an antiques dealer i guess, you need to know what youre buying and selling and as a buyer yourself you'll probably know. don't bother buying job lots of junk, or buying random things in the hope theyll sell on. there are a few links about becoming a dealer on ebay but i'd be too scared in case it went wrong and i was left worse off!
    "What...? I was only saying...."
