I've noticed that several of their London branches have closed down at very short notice... Are they going under? Anyone know?

I noticed that a Glasgow branch has closed as well. Don't really know much about them though, sorry.0

Maybe they are trying to downsize because of recssion etc. and/or trying to be more online dependant?0
-
They've probably just realised how incredibly strange the idea of an insurance company having high street branches is.0
-
They're still happily bobbing along.
A review of where the core of their business came from revealed that most was received via the internet and over the telephone. As such, they conducted an analysis and decided to close the entire branch network and focus on providing better service via the internet and telephone.
They're very unlikely to go under as they are now owned by the insurance giant - Zurich.

There was a spammer on here a short while ago trying to sell their insurance to students so they may be struggling a bit.
More likely to be as hazzanet says though, I'd have thought.0 -
All I can say is, I tried to get insurance this week and I've never seen such prices. When I started uni, insurance was around 70 quid including everything (laptop beer spills, clothes, watch, camera etc etc etc) and now, a lesser quantity quote came to £172.
I'm going to university uninsured this year
can't afford that! 0 -
would it be wrong to admit that i've never had insurance as a student?! i know that it's risky, but my possessions weren't worth anything as an undergrad (no computer, no laptop, no MP3 player, cheap camera, no designer clothes etc etc etc). if you having nothing worth stealing, then it's a lot easier!!! if the cost to replace most things is less than the cost of the annual policy plus excess, then there's no point. but as most students now take a lot of expensive electrical equipment, it is very risky not to get any insurance.....:happyhear0

Last year I bought the basic Endsleigh cover for my DD and it was very reasonable, but they have quoted me £127 for this year.
As I'm in the process of renewing my own household contents insurance, I've noticed lots of policies cover items "temporarily" used away from home. They state that this includes items used by students who are part of the insurer's family - and the cover (usually £5000) and premium are not affected by the student's location (as you do not have to specify where they are). So it looks like I can get DD's possessions covered by my contents insurance, which will only cost £200 in total!

Check the small print really carefully on that! Alot of insurers will cover a students possessions, but not outside their lodgings. If they take a laptop to the library etc, it won't be covered. They also won't cover it if it's stolen from a room in a shared house if there's no lock and it isn't locked whenever the student is out of the room. Most insurance company's will do anything to avoid paying out, so the student cover (although a bonus) is often totally pointless!0 -
But, Endsleigh is just as bad! Their laptop cover is an additional cost to the basic policy and no-one will pay out for a laptop left unattended in a library or in an unlocked room in Halls. At least if cover is included in your household insurance, you aren't being ripped off to the tune of £100+Check the small print really carefully on that!
