Help - blocked sink

Options
My sink was blocked so i took the U-bend off and cleaned it and put it back on.
My sink is still won't drain though. It will drain a certain amount and then just stop completely.
Also when I put my washing machine on (which is also connected to the sink waste pipe) the waste water bubbles up through the plughole into the sink and will not drain away.

Has anyone got any other ideas?

Thank You

Try a Plunger. You may have junk stuck in the waste pipe.

At this time of year if the pipes lead into an outside drain with a grate, they tend to get clogged with leaves. If it's that just clear it out.

I tried a plunger as well, but alas, no luck.

You might want to get you hands on one of those, wire pipe snakes. You feed it like drain rods down the hole and hope it moves the obstruction.

You could also try some of that drain unblocker seen on TV, but I have no idea if that works. It does on TV, but so does Persil on clothes.... (not mine though)

    thanks for the replies-

I ended up just calling my landlord who gave me some Mr Muscle drain unblocker and said if it doesnt work he will call a plumber.

It may not even be a blockage in my waste water pipe. I live on the top floor of 4 storeys of flats so it could be blocked somewhere else in the building, if my pipe feeds into a main pipe for the building.

Have you tried a solution of soda crystals and hot water ? Had the same problem in my old flat (2nd floor) , put the soda crystals down and WHOOSH problem solved .HTHx
  • Dambuster is one of the best products I've used, although it should be used with extreme caution as it contains sulphuric acid and the instructions should be followed to the letter. If using a plunger alot of people for get that they need to cover the overflow with a damp rag and put some water in the sink/basin, otherwise air will just be pumped in and out of the overflow.
