Fat feet! Can someone help me find shoes for my baby!

  • Some babies do have very chubby feet. Maybe your daughter does? My eldest daughter was measuring a G and is now down to an F (she's 4) so they don't always get wider. She was never really chubby but had her fair share of puppy fat and has now slimmed down. You may find your daughter does too now she's walking well. Otherwise I sympathise, my sons were both H fitting and remained that way.

My DS had a new pair of shoes at the end of last week and he's gone slightly narrower too so it does happen (he's nearly three). He's always had quite a wide foot, and a high instep too. DD on the other hand has got very narrow feet (Clarks' E fitting is too wide really) and I've always had much more of a problem getting shoes for her than for DS.

And it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end

My experience is that my children's feet have got less wide as they get older. DD2 has had the widest feet(H) but also high instep etc (like me!) and when Ive found a Clarkes style that fits, she just gets the same or variations of it time after time.
I do remember that panic though one summer when she was about 3 years old, when I couldnt find her a pair of shoes to fit anywhere and was going to have to look into getting some made, think I ended up getting some a whole size bigger in the end, not ideal.
So it might be that as your daughter gets older then hopefully her feet will slim to a G or at least fit well into an H.
Ive been getting my shoes recently (for myself) from emotionshoes online, finally...comfy shoes for wide feet!

Hi RustyFlange, I have similar problems with my dd's feet, when she was your dd's age I bought her some Roobeez shoes they are soft leather almost like slippers but were fine as she didn't walk outdoors an awful lot. Ideal for nursery and that sort of thing. It's just an idea. Have a wee look on the link above on amazon, you can get them elsewhere might be cheaper, just used the amazon link as I know they have a good selection and sure you can return them if they aren't suitable.
Oh I'v just found the Roobeez website might be helpful for size charts

My youngest had very wide feet, always had to have a half size larger in Clarks H fitting, I don't think we ever found and I fitting. He never had a choice of shoes, there was usually only one pair in the shop that fitted properly. Startrite didn't suit the shape of his feet.

My DS1 has always had wide feet, G when he was younger, going to H as he got older. We took him to John Lewis to get his first pair of school shoes a few weeks ago and they told us he is an I fitting  but they don't stock I in any make as they aren't made. After trying on a huge number of shoes and styles we ended up with a pair of Clarks in an H fitting but half a size bigger than he measured and we were told they fitted fine and he says they are comfortable. Sorry Rusty, that's absolutely no help to you is it, I'm just sharing my story ;)

We cover all the bases between our family :p mum & 'big' sis are size 3--one wide & t'other narrow--I've got wide size 5.5, & we carry on up to a male 13 wide for a nephew

I'm wondering if something like Long Tall Sally may help...if they're still going...for the ladies & whatever the equivalent is for men? I know I've read about a couple of places that will sell odd shoes for people with different sized feet, & the extreme sizes that are not popular if you believe High Street stores  But sorry--can't help with any names :o ...just wanted you to know you're not alone in your quest.

  • Try a Brantano shop. They do Clarks and I know from experience they go upto K fitting in the first shoes section for toddlers. If they don't stock that size& width in that particular branch they can order a pair to be sent from somewhere else in the country.
My son has the typical fat baby feet and I pray he stays that way. I, as others have mentioned have narrow feet. My foot is a size 5 but if I put one on it's like wearing the box so i have to squeeze into a 4.5 or 4. Resulting in a bunion that is growing.
As a child my Mum bought the size I needed and padded the sides out with heel grips. Or I was restricted to wearing lace ups that could be tightened up to the max.
