Try here for all the answers you could possibly want on NYC
http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowForum-g60763-i5-New_York_City_New_York.html
or do a search on this forum, but that will guide you to the above link as well, as I post it in every NY thread I see.
December will be cold, get a week long metro pass $24 (use on buses and subway) but Empire State Building tickets on line before you go (queue buying them can be approx 45 minutes and another hour or so to get to the top)****************************0 -
Erm if your big kids like us we went in Fao Shcwarts and they let you play on that piano out of the film 'Big' its fun...the 2 lads keeping an eye on it do a quick show every now and again its free and worth a watch.
Oh and deffinately get 'I heart ny' t-shirts and go in tifany's just to see how snotty the staff can be with obvious tourists, its hilarious. Adinner cruise with world yacht round the hudson is a good night out, they have an outside deck with a bar upstairs could be a bit nippy in December mind but its nice and romantic.0 -
Ice skating in central park is a must, wrap up warm though.0

Apparently you get the best view of the Statue of Liberty from the statten island ferry and it's free! Also buy Empire State building tickets online before you go, the queue on the day is 3/4 an hour long0

For a stunning and v funny night out, go to Lucky Cheng's. https://www.planetluckycheng.com. Don't go for the food tho, it's purely incidental to the floorshow.
If you're lucky and it's snowing, a walk (or ride in a horse & carriage) through Central Park is just fantastic.
The Blue Man Group - a multimedia theatre show that has to be seen to be believed. I think they're sending a "satellite" production to London so I'll definitely be making another trip to see them. http://www.blueman.com/
Oh, and have breakfast at Dean & DeLuca. Before you criticise a man, walk a mile in his shoes. Then, when you do criticise him, you're a mile away and you have his shoes.0 -
Went October 2004.
The circular Manhattan Island boat was well worth doing as was the Staten Island Ferry......go out in daylight during late afternoon or whenever, have a coffee while it gets dark, then head back.....stunning.
Did the same with Empire State...up to the top in daylight then watch the night settle in.
Took a helicopter flight.....about £60 for 10/15 minutes.....short but worth it.
Try biking around Central Park...you might come across Lance.0 -

and ..............have a brilliant time whatever you do! 0 -
Oooh where do I start. We went in Feb and loved it. December will be cold, just like Feb was, but if you wrap up warm and in layers you will be OK. It didn't stop us having fun.
We were lucky to see NY with and without snow. When we arrived it was snowing and then the snow cleared and then when we were leaving it started snowing again!
We did the folllowing things and loved each and every one of them!
Empire State Building - pre booked tickets and booked for approx 45 minutes before it was due to get dark. We then stayed at the top and watched the night fall over the city - very memorable and enjoyable. Plus we got to see the city in both lights which was nice.
Statue of Liberty - observed from the staten island ferry which is free. Great views there and back.
Helicopter Ride - 15 minutes in a helicopter which was a christmas present from my Nan. Well worth it and definately one of the best things of the trip. Got great views of the hudson river, flew right round the statue of liberty and a whole lot more.
Central Park - had a horse ride through the park in the snow, but I personally thought this was a waste of money - $50 for 20 minutes or so. Nothing that you can't see whilst walking. The park is beautiful and plenty to keep you busy.
Ice Skating in central park - or just sit and watch everyone else do it if you prefer! Again we sat and watched night fall and the views really were spectacular.
Dinner at the top of the Marriott Marquis - hotel in Times Square. It has a revolving restaurant on the top floor and offers amaxing views of the city. We ate there at night time on the very last night and it was breathtaking. Not too badly priced if I remember rightly, but it was a bit of a treat, approx £80 I think for a buffet dinner and drinks all night, and we did have a lot of them!
Walk over Brooklyn Bridge - gives an amazing view of the cities skyline
Visit Ground Zero - we went into St Pauls cathedral when we where there ,which is 1 block from where the twin towers once stood. The cathedral is a bit like a memorial to that tragic day and is very emotional and humbling to visit. I would def recommend a visit here, where you can pay your respects and just acknowledge the terrible events of that day.
Shopping - Macys, Bloomingdales, Saks, Lord and Taylor, Tiffanys, Gucci to name a few. Prices are brilliant compared to what you pay here in the UK. Paid £70 for some Seven jeans that are £160 here.
China Town - as a designer handbag kinda girl, this was my heaven. Although alot of the items on sale were *cough cough ahem* not entirely legitimate, I did still buy a handbag. It was a gucci one that cost a matter of pounds and compared to my real gucci bag, the difference is not really noticeable. It is also an experience and you will find out why if you go!
Catch a show on Bradway - we watched Mamma Mia when we were there. Pre booked the tickets - again another christmas present. Can buy tickets in Times Square but the queues were always quite big!
We also did a Greylines tour bus which takes you round the city with a guide giving you so much information about the city and historical and interesting facts. It really was worth going on this, if I remember rightly this cost us approx £25 each but it was worth it.
Ooooh, I'm off to get my photo album out now, after the trip down memory lane! I had a wonderful time in NY and have some beautiful memories that will stay with me for the rest of my life. I cannot wait to go back some day.
Enjoy you lucky lucky thing x
Oh one last thing, Eat cheesecake - its the best I've ever tasted!Nice Shoes & Expensive Designer Handbags, are my downfall!0 -
If you want Tickets for a show but don't want to pay full price...use the TKTS booth. The one at Times Square will have massive queues but it's little known fact that they have another booth at the South Street Seaport, which is nice for a visit anyway!!
Mulberry Street in Little Italy is great place for a stroll, dinner or even just a desert. If you like peanut butteyou must visit the Peanut butter company at Greenwich Village for everything made of....peanut butter!
The best pizza in New York is the other side of the Brooklyn Bridge...it's long walk and you'll need sustenance before you go any further!! It's a small shop just up the street behind the ice cream parlour, I think it's called Garfunkels and you usually have to queue...even for a takeaway...but it's well worth it! Have fun!!0
