Sainsburys Meal Ticket

Does anyone know anything about this?
I saw it in this months Sainsburys Mag,and it appears it's a pre pay debit card that you can only use in Sainsburys and Sainsburys petrol staions. I like the idea that you can't take the money off it in cash and my daughter could only use it for what sainsburys sell (yes I know they sell booze but tbh she's not that bothered by booze). It seems to have no fee you can top up at the till or online, although I personally prefer to shop elswhere most of the time as I find them a bit expensive. I would like to be able to put money on to ensure I could get her groceries if she was really struggling though.

  • I work for sainsburys.
Basically its a gift card that has two parts, one for the parent and one for the student. Only the students card can be used to pay for goods, however both cards can add to the balance.
To top up the card all you do is take it to the till when you do your shopping.

Owed to the bank: £2200 and falling.
  • As far as I know most supermarkets do something similar. My Grandma used to send me £10 Asda gift cards while I was studying :)

    Sainsburys is pretty pricy.

Good idea from sainsburys but the price difference is still there.

All supermarkets do gift vouchers, usually ask for some for birthday :)

As far as i am aware, ours is the only one with two parts. As you say your gran sent you 'cards' with this one you will only need one card as it can be topped up by your parents at home.

As for being pricey we had the cheapest basket in a poll by the Mirror on saturday.

Oh course the Mirror is completely indepedant. And it does really depend on what you buy. :)

Pricewise, Tescos is cheaper than sainsburys, and Tesco have a Clubcard Plus, which you pre-load with money. You also get extra clubcard points when using it

Im not entirely sure what you are getting at with the first sentence but it was done as part of an article on beating the 'credit crunch' as far as i am aware. The second half of the statement however is correct.

I do admit that on many branded products that we are more expensive. However i do genuinely believe that our own products are a much better quality than other supermarkets.

Is the tesco clubcard plus a credit card though?
Tbh my credit rating is ** so I would never get one of those.

no, its a card you add money to, and you can only spend what is on it

Actually, if you have a monthly DD on to it, you get an "overdraft" of the same amount. Also you can withdraw cash from it, so not precisely what the OP was looking for.
