meths or acetone

Does anyone know where I can buy large,(1litre?) cheap bottles of methylated spirits and or acetone? The bottles I see are only small ones and cost a fortune.

B&Q do 500ml meths for around £3, may also be available from camping shops.

look for "glass fibre suppliers" in yellow pages, they sell gallon and five gallon acetone for not very much

Hardly cheap though is it £6. a litre, thats dearer than petrol, although maybe not for much longer

Hmmm, nearest one to me is about 20 miles away, it will make it expensive with the petrol I will have to use to get there and back.

Acetone, they don't do meths.
1 ltr tin £4.52 inc vat
Delivery inc vat £7.63
Total for 1 ltr £12.15

2.5 ltr tin £6.17 inc vat
Delivery £7.93 inc vat
Total for 2.5 ltrs; - £14.10




Have found one a bit closer Glasplies Southport, their acetone price for 2.5 ltrs, (they don't do 1 ltrs or meths);-

2.5 ltrs £4.70 inc vat
Delivery £8.23 inc vat
Total; - £12.93


But as is said on East Coast site; -"All goods are from fresh stock which are have a shelf life of 6 months from the manufacturing date, we guarantee them for 3 months after dispatch, as long as they are kept in a cool, dark place they will in practice last a lot longer"

I probably won't bother as I won't be using a lot so it could last me 18-24 months, so I would probably waste a lot of it, so looks like continuing with the chemists.

Buy it when you're in France/Spain, it's on supermarket shelves (Don't make a special trip though)

It's illegal to bring it in, it is a hazardous chemical.
