Halifax O% rate

I'm a VERY new moneysaver and have a question that is probably off the scale of stupidity!
I read about stoozing in the guardian a few weeks ago and then looked it up on this website. It mentioned the Halifax one card as one of the best cards for it's interest rate on purchases at 0% for 12 months.
I followed the link to the Halifax website where it said that it was 0% for 12 months on balance transfers and 0% for only 3 months on purchases.
I don't have a debt to transfer and was hoping to simply use the Halifax card for spending.
Am I being stupid
I wouldn't be surprised as I'm very new to this saving malarky!

Halifax changed the card on Monday. It was 12 months 0% on purchasing before that. The Revenge article is a 'weekly update' so its being done right now

You might want to consider Sainsbury's or Mint for long 0% introductory rates on purchases...Foxylady2 wrote:I don't have a debt to transfer and was hoping to simply use the Halifax card for spending.

How strange...Sainsbury's is a Halifax card, but they still have 10 months on purchases.
Can you get a Halifax card even if you have a Sainsbury's card? Or are they smarter than that! Thanks in advance,

I have also just applied for a Halifax One card, and have my agreement in front of me, it says 0 % for twelve months for purchases in one section, but in another section it says
Interest free period "Maximum 59 days for purchases if you pay the balance in full and on time. There is no interest free period on cash advances, balance transfers or cheques."
Am I being thick or do these statements contradict each other ?
Or are they referring to how the IR works after the 0% introductory rate has finished ?
Eg. I buy a new motorbike for £4000
I make minimum repayment of - £80 (2%) for 11 months.
pay balance of £3120 on month 12
ie. £ 4000 payed off in full in 12 months.
Would I pay any interest ??0 -
Ive just been "pre-approved" for a Halifax card, 0% 12 months interest free credit with no balance transfer fee and about £4000 limit. I only phoned to check a discrepancy with my current a/c and they offered me this over the phone..."There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children; one of these is roots, the other wings" - Hodding Carter
