You can't see it in the photo on the tonerplusuk site, but other closeups show that there are four contacts within the plastic "cradle" that line up with the contacts on the chip.
I've not used one as I've only recently bought the printer, so I can't say from personal experience that they actually work. But they are being sold from what seem to be reputable retailers, so no reason to suspect that they don't.
On your last question, I believe that installing a full cartridge should automatically re-enable ink monitoring ~but~ the printer will "remember" that ink monitoring had at some point been turned off, and hence the Canon warranty may be void if the printer later develops printhead problems.0 -
You could try taking a look at these suggested fixes at Fixya, but at your own risk!!Mary_Hartnell wrote: »If one has already forced a Pixma to ignore an "empty" chip, will giving it a cartridge with a "full" chip automatically reset it to display full again?

This is the price after £15 cash back. I got a similar deal last year.

I am thinking of getting the above deal. Would you buy through Amazon or ebayer?
My concern is buying ink cartridges. Cheapest remanufactured cartridge for each? so far black £11.49 & colour £13.29 (Source), can anyone find a cheaper deal?
Thank you0 -
Refills for a fiver? where? do they do postal sales? do they work properly? do they re-sat the chip?0

lol..very funny..its a good printer im after that is as cheap as the IP1000 or an IP100 itself mine blow up tonight ( well packed in) and all the printers I have been looking at the ink are expensive
BTW...we have been try to get flights to go bak but no joy for the rest of this year...if you see anything let me knowIf you look anything like your passport photo....Your too ill to travel0 -
The answer is, when you buy a cheap new printer, buy several. You then replace the printer when the ink runs out !
I am totally serious here - this is often cheaper than buying new ink cartridges.0
