Is 93% a record rise in elec?

Click Energy5 is coming out by far the cheapest but am sitting on it whilst I gather facts and people's opinions as no point switching to find out that it is already more expensive when I actually have transferred.
Anyone any idea when BG is going to review these prices?

Hello David. Well we couldn't wait! I tried to talk to British Gas today about Click Energy 5, but no one would answer the phone. Reluctantly we contacted e.on twice today (and they answered the phone straight away) to talk about their tariffs. So we've switched today to 'Electricity Online Extra Saver 8'. We've been assured that even if it rises it will only go up to their 'Standard' tariff anyway. It's still £200 cheaper than npower (that we're on now) so absolutely no point in staying with them. Doing a little research today kind of suggested that Click Energy 5 WILL rise, and be more than e.on's Saver 8. Hope that's true, but to be honest, I would rather be settled into a plan than spend my time keep checking. I was also impressed with e.on's service and relaxed chat - bloke even called me "mate"!

However, an email enquiry on Friday has revealed that they are about to start charging us 11.5p per kWh. Our annual bill will go from £908 this year to £1,752! I couldn't believe the email and managed (after two days!) to get them on the phone. They confirmed it is correct. I have contacted the energy ombudsman to see if this is legal. EnergyWatch say it is if it's in the terms & conditions (which we never received). Obviously we will switch. On a broader picture, the sort of increases we are all seeing cannot go on.
I am also on SOL8 although I had a letter talking about as if I was on SOl2 which is an error on their part. I spoke to them today and the electricity cost after the first 182kWh per quarter is increasing from 5.33p to 11.23p (both exc. VAT). I make that over 100% increase. My bill will go up about £1000 per year.0 -
classact. They never even returned my email - neither did the Energy Ombudsman (although they say it can take 10 days to reply). Crazy prices, aren't they? I really fear for some people who currently haven't realised what bill they will get in three months or whenever. I know of one family who are right on the line in their finances. A doubled energy bill will crush them.0

It is particularly alarming to see the prices just double. I was told my bill will be here any day and that will have the new prices on which commenced 29th august 2008. Once I get that bill I will start shopping around again. I don't believe in fixing as these fixed/capped tariffs until a certain date always seem to cost a lot more than the current online deal. Only thing is I might forfit my bonus by jumping ship which I think is £80 but stuff it at those prices I will still jump ship if it's worthwhile.0 -
classact. The guy I got chatting to at e.on said that even he didn't believe in capped tariffs, and thought that bills won't rise next year (as long as there's no oil crisis). Hence capped would be a bad idea. Oh, crystal balls.0

Don't forget, if you go through Quidco or other cashback sites you can get £60 for switching to British Gas, £30 for switching to Eon for dual fuel.
