Hi,
In 2003 i brought a 12" g4 ibook, after the yr warranty i paid for an extra 2yrs Apple care plan.
Then in september 2006 the screen started to flicker and go blank, then it may re-apper. After endlesss surching on the internet i found out that my serial number was one of a batch that had a logic board problem that resulted in the screen not working. I wrote to Apple this yr after finding all this out and they said no go basically.
So i wrote again a few weeks ago, as the fault was know and i had taken apple care therefore they had all my details why was i never in formed that there maybe a problem. They did for a while have an exchange programme but my fault happened after this time. They called me to advise that all they could offer was £54.00 off, of something worth £180.00 or more. Not happy with this i said that this was unfair and that yes i had left it a while to get in touch but you knew of the fault. They have now offered me the £54.00 or an ipod nano £99.00 I must reply to them by 10th Sept or lose this.
Please can anyone advise. Am i wasting my time as it's been so long and just take the i pod or is there anything more given the time span.
Thanks in advance for any advice and sorry about the long winded question.

Hi, Welcome
Not an expert but you are are out of warranty period. I dont buy extended warranties myself (save money and if it goes wrong its normally in the first three months anyway and can repair/replace goods). Take the iPod nano go for the more expensive 8Gb one if you can. Sounds like a poor /intermittant fault really and glad I brought the wife a PC instead of the (al)most perfect macs.0 -

I'm not really sure what your options are. I would probably go for the Nano. You could always sell it and put the money towards a logic board replacement. You could find a local authorised service centre, who would probably replace the logic board for less than Apple would charge.totalsolutions wrote: »Sounds like a poor /intermittant fault really and glad I brought the wife a PC instead of the (al)most perfect macs.
We'll see how your wife's PC is doing in 5 years.

Hi thanks guys,
i think i got it wrong.. it's a G3 not A g4.
A replacement logic board loooks like being £300.00 +...
Any advise appreciated0 -
If the repair bill will be £300, then it doesn't sound as though it's going to be very economical to repair. You can buy working models on eBay for less than £150.
Though, you can also buy G3 iBook logic boards on eBay for less than £50; if you knew the part you needed, you could perhaps pick it up cheaply yourself and just pay someone to install it.
As for Apple, I think you're pretty lucky to be getting anything from them, and I imagine a free iPod Nano is more than they're obliged to give you. I'd take it and run.
New models are expected on the 9th September, so maybe you should wait until then to take them up on their offer.

Cut your losses. A G3 won't be worth much now, sell it on eBay and just move on. Take the discount if you want another Apple, only take the iPod if you really want it, £99 isnt a great deal at all, especially if it's a 4gig one.0
