Hi all.
Just wanted to know if anyone could me out here.
I have been searching through this site & I can’t seem to find any info about Public Liability insurance.
I'm self employed & currently have insurance with Zurich.
I have spoken with other guys I work with & they say I paying quite a lot.
So if anyone could please let me know how I can compare Public Liability insurance.
Many thanks

I think it would depend on the type of business you have. A night club near me opened a few months ago and paid £9k for public liability insurance with a cheque. The place wasnt finished the refurb when they opened and when the punters realised this business went down....rapidly.
The couldn't make the money back for the insurance quick enough and the cheque bounced. Oh dear....bye bye nightclub!
It would be worth heading to a local insurance broker, they may be able to help you with an idea of the costs involved. Dont feel pressured into accepting quotes and then go and research online yourself."Life may not always be the party you wish for, but whilst here you may aswell dance"!!!

Try looking at someone such as Hiscox, I need them to do me another quote but they quoted earlier this year for public liability and professional indemnity insurance as well as employers liability (I dont need employers liability now) and they quoted me £240 for the year which was more than reasonable.
I think if you go onto the Association for British Insurers website that you can compare prices for business insurance.

There are very few companies that provide insurance to the commercial sector direct. I remember reading in the Post Magazine (one of the insurance mags) that one of the direct writers is selling off all their business.
At present, the only real way to get a good look at the market is to use a broker. I recommend using 2 brokers, but being honest and telling them what you are doing. Try to make it worth their while; say that which ever one comes up with the best deal will get your recommendation to your colleagues as well as the chance to quote for your home and car insurances when they are due.In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -
We use Hiscox and recommend them,The Head Honcho (does very little work)0

My friend arranged his public liability through Milestone Insurance who are a broker and they saved him a considerable amount and searched the market for him.
They have a website www.milestoneinsurance.co.uk or ring 0845 271 1831
Hope this helps

To kick you off try MMA - when you get there, see the link on the right that says 'find a Broker'. Axa also have a decent basic product. Suggest Axa to the Broker too.
My brother is self employed and got his public liability insurance for £44.63 for the year! Cover was for £1,000,000 and he claimed about a week after taking it out and had no problems.
He did a search on MSN for "public liability insurance quote" and went through a site called http://www.publicliabilityinsurance.org.uk/. Had never heard of the broker but they all checked out with the FSA and the insurance company it was underwritten by was MMA as mentioned by agaveworm earlier in this thread.
He was a bit miffed why it was so cheap as all the other quotes he got were in the region of £100 at the time (about 2 months ago). They just said they've got preferential rates from MMA that other brokers don't have(?)
Anyway, bottom line is they were cheap and helpful with claim! :j0
