Itunes - Vista - missing songs....?

Hi

Wonder if anyone can help. I've set my Itunes music store directory to an external hard drive. The music seems to be there but Itunes cannot seem to locate it.

This keeps on happening. Its fine to copy music to the external drive but finding it again seems to be nigh on impossible.

Is this a common problem?

This is how Apple suggest moving your iTunes library:

Perhaps you missed a step.

Thanks for that. Slightly different issue though. All music in library has copied to my external drive. That's where it needs to stay to avoid cluttering up c: drive. Trouble is, itunes cannot ever seem to find the external drive again.

Does iTunes know all the songs are on the external drive?

Did you change the iTunes library location in iTunes?

Did you add all the songs to iTunes again?

If you open iTunes without the external HDD being connected/turned on, iTunes will change back to its default library location.

Copying songs to an external is no different from copying them somewhere else on an internal HDD. If you followed all the steps in the link above, I'm not sure why it wouldn't work.
