Not sure how long to go for, as not sure really how big and what to do there.
Also where to stay
Its just for me and my wife.
Can anybody offer advice

Hotels look at www.hotels.nl
Flights - a lot of budget airlines go there depending on which airport you want to depart from.
Been there many times always plenty of things to do including having a look at the red light district0 -
Hi
I went with a friend for four days and could have stayed longer. We flew with Jet2 and the train is brilliant to take you into Amsterdam from the airport.
We booked our room via Hotel Connect and it was really central.
The red light district is certainly worth visiting, we did a walking tour which was great. It is also worth doing a boat tour and a visit to the Anne Frank house.
We booked all our trips once we were there.
Enjoy0 -

As for food, I'd recommend De Bolhoed (http://www.vegguide.org/entry/1036) for good veggie grub, Cinema Paradiso (http://www.cinemaparadiso.info/) for pizza and Sgroppino and Sama Sebo (http://www.samasebo.nl/) for Indonesian.0 -
If you just want a few days in the Netherlands and there is nothing particular in Amsterdam you want to see, then I'd avoid it. Everyone goes to Amsterdam and it is full of tourists paying tourist prices. There's loads of nice places to visit - the city of Utrecht, Delft, Den Haag etc etc. Travel infrastructure is far better over there so easy to get just about anywhere you want to get to. You'll get a nice hotel outside of amsterdam, everyone speaks english (but "alstubleeft" and "Danku" helps) and not paying over the top prices for hotels, meals and drinks. I travel regularly to the Low Countries and never ever go to Amsterdam now unless there is a museaum/place of interest that i want to see that is in Amsterdam.0

Try looking on hotelsclick.com - we booked a quad room at Schiphol A4, Bed & Beakfast included -approx 10 minute coach journey from the airport (courtesy bus from airport/hotel to hotel/airport at all times). The trains run out of the airport to the City Centre (approx 10 min journey) and you are right in the heart of Amsterdam. The hotel was fantastic, hot buffet breakfast (brilliant
) taxes included, spacious room, with flat screen TV, leather suites and all for £182.00 for 3 nights PER ROOM!! Best time to go for hotel/flights was Friday to Sunday/Monday. 0 -
Thanks for your replies
Just booked flight via bmibaby £134 plus £12 c/card fee, for 12th to 15th from b'ham

fruity1 -Schiphol A4 looks good but sold out, but you can book and they will tell you in 2days if can be sold at this price

The rail / ferry offers on Stena Line are fantastic value for trips to Holland. Ferries are superb and with rail connections direct to the ferry at both terminals it makes air travel to Holland a thing of the past.0
