Hi everyone just want to say thanks for the advice i received regarding my laptop. I ran the recovery disc and it got as far as
Drive z = Driver cd - R01 unit 0
CDR101 Not ready reading drive z
Abort, Retry. Fail
So as people suggested it sounds like my HDD so it looks like its time for a new laptop as i have had this one for a few years now. I think this site is brilliant for advice and would once again like to say thank you

that mesg is saying the cd rom can't be readclick here to achieve nothing!0

Cd may be scratched If you can see a fine scratch then I have rescued CD's using Brasso , then done a copy straight away
