Help please -connecting I-Pod to Livebox

My sons I-Pod was linked to the internet via our Wandoo Livebox.
He formated it, and it will not connect now.
When he types in the WEP Key it says cannot connect to the Network
He has;
Reset all settings and Network settings
Turned the Wi Fi on and off.
Powered off twice
When he selects the blue arrow next to my network it does not show the IP address etc.
He has now phoned Apple who could not recommend any thing other than changing WPA-PSK to open.
Is this OK as I am clueless as far as computers are concerned?

Dont know much about IPOD connectivity but dont disable your encryption, that means anyone can leech your internet connection (which is a bad thing), it could be a firewall issue, i would access the router firewall, and see if you can allow access."Well, that sounds like a pretty good deal.
