Any advice about tax credits whn I move in with partner?

Hi,
I just wondered if anyone would know anything about my situation, I am currently a struggling single parent on income support and child tax credits, I am not working as I am doing a course. I want to move in with my partner but I'm just a bit worried that it might make my money situation worse and I dont wanna end up arguing about money with my partner.

does anyone know if there is anywhere you can calculate what your benefits will be in this situation before going ahead and making the change? As i dont wanna find out when its too late!

Thanks, Jenny :p

    Is your partner working ?

https://www.entitledto.com will give you an idea of what you'd be entitled to as a couple.
  • Yes sorry i meant to write that in there. He is working full time and earning about 210 per week after tax i think.

Chances are you'd get a reasonable amount of Working Tax Credit in addition to the Child Tax Credit and Child Benefit you already get.

How many children do you have?

Like conor says, you will get wtc and ctc on that income. And possibly some help with rent and council tax too.

You may also get help with childcare if you go out to work.

Also, if you receive any child maintenance, then you will get that in full if not receiving income support as it is not counted for tax credit purposes.
  • my dh gets £210 after tax and he gets £15 wtc a week.

I worked it out at around £30 wtc and £55 ctc on entitledto, after working out what the gross annual income would be for someone on £210 after tax a week.

That was for one child, over the age of one.
  • Sorry just checked payslip - he does get £210 after tax but he also pays £38 into company pension every week, so i would assume his take home pay would be about £245 after tax if he did not pay into the pension (hope i'm not confusing you) Have been on entitled to as well and it comes out at the figures we receive. £89.?? ctc and £14.?? wtc , we have 2 children.

Ah, the number of children will make a difference as well. Mine was based on one child.
