Q about using game cube controllers with Wii

Hope this is the correct place to ask

We purchased some points and bought mario kart from the channel shop hoping to play it with the game cube controllers
The controllers fitted into the wii console but we just kept getting a mesage to plug in a classic controller

Any body with any help info ? new to all off this wii thing

theres two types of controller, one is based on the Super Nintendo, and the other on the gamecube. Super Nintendo Games need the SNES controller and of course the Gamecube games use the Gamecube controller. If I remember rightly the Classic Controller (SNES) plugs into the WII Remote like the nunchucks do. If you purchase NES games you can use the WII remote to control the games (First Nintendo games machine)
