This is why I keep saying that not many people are safe. You can have cutting/bleeding edge skills in a particular industry, be the most industrious employee or have the company director as a golf buddy. All count for nought when the axe is falling. Finding another job, even if your skills are up to date is always hard when the few roles that become available are swamped with 100 desperate applicants.

Can you somehow stop the recession/depression DD? Maybe if we don't discuss it then the bad stuff will be easier to deal with.

Its like knowing, expecting, or having scientific warning that a full force hurricane is building and is on the way to your territory. Dan and Pickles might say... "Stop wishing for the hurricane... don't you know the damage and misery it may cause?"

"Damn you all for wishing for the hurricane."

There are enormous pressures in the property and financial system which have built up and a major earthquake has only just started. Except these are not natural disasters but the unfolding of years of financial excess, recklessness, and extreme speculation.

Its getting a slightly windier and we've had a few little foreshock tremors.

Not even you can stop the unfolding by telling us not to wish for it. Those who expected it, or had warning, take measures against getting caught out as best they can.

Erm, did you actually read the post that you quoted? Let me summarise...

I was talking about the recession and was telling wolfman that I also work in I.T. and while his company may have funding in place for two years, it doesn't necessarily follow that he will be immune to a recession and that it would probably be a good idea to bear this in mind (in regard to his financial planning).

So lets see, I was talking about the recession, saying that not many people are immune and telling people they should prepare. And you come back with some stuff about "Oh DD, can you stop a recession if we don't talk about it?"

I mean, hello! I was talking about it. Okay, perhaps not in the shrill, foaming at the mouth way that many do on here, but I was talking about it, and so this kinda makes your point a little moot does it not?
