I am told that nearly half a million laptops are being recalled by SONY, but that this in only in Japan. Does this mean that anything goes here?
Previously it was their lithium ion batteries that overheated and this caused quite a stir. Unfortunately all these problems raise the question of the Sony brand losing reputation.
I know that as a company they are acting responsibly by recalling and warning etc, so there we are

Apparently some that have been sold in the UK are to be recalled as well.
Sony, they used to be a great brand.:rolleyes:0 -
The wife has a brand new Sony 17" Very nice too. Registered with Sony and had no recall alerts, don't expect any either. What models are they recalling? Happy to hear they are proactive in customer service. Sony make decent products and if there is a model that suits me I will buy.0

Different series to wifes pc. All makes seem effected in some way, All batteries have a danger in (ab)use.
"In 2006, major laptop manufacturers including Dell, Hitachi, Apple, Lenovo and Toshiba were among those who recalled a total of 9.6 million Sony batteries after evidence that, in certain circumstances, the batteries could overheat and catch fire."0 -
Strange we only get to hear about the Sony ones then.0

I purchased a sony vaio laptop 3 years ago for £1300 and was nothing but trouble.
It was over heating to the point the ac adapter connector rubber melted and changed shape.
It was back and forth to the sony repair centre, I decided to purchase a Dell and will not ever trust the Sony brand again.0
