hi my 18 year old son who lives alone has just decided to go to college he whent for his first lessons the other day. the problem is that if he goes then he will have his jobseakers allowance stopped and will only be able to claim ema. as he lives alone that only gives him 30 pounds to live on.
for personal reason i am not able to let him live with me but im worried because no one can survive on that sort of money.
does anyone know if there is any other benefits he may be able to get or grants or student loans. he is doing a course in hospitality and catering in our local college. this is not higher education.
im trying to help him all i can but live on a very low income myself so my help is very limited. any advise would be very welcome.

He may be able to claim Income Support. As long as he is in full time education and estranged from parents. The course also has to be an approved one. I don't know however what the approved courses are. Your best bet would be to call the local jobcentre ask for an IS advisor and explain the situation.0
