No it won't make obtaining credit more difficult has CRA's have FULL access to the FULL register, but it will stop the local authority from selling your information on to anyone else who wants it.

It should also cut down on the amount of junk mail you receive as your name/address will not be banded to all n sundry !

Maybe somebody will correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure I've read elsewhere on this site that the edited version is only so that your details aren't sold to marketing companies etc and it shouldn't have any impact in terms of the credit reference agencies as they use the full version.

**Edit** exel1966 got there before me.

Until 2001, the whole register was for sale. Now there are two lists, the edited register (which is sold to anyone who wants to buy and which may be viewed in a public library) and the full version (which isn't sold, but which may be inspected at a local electoral registration office.)

Ticking the box removes you from the list that's sold, but does not affect your credit rating because, as noted above, the credit reference agencies use the full version.

Btw, not being on the edited register can sometimes cause a problem if you apply for credit from a retailer. A firm, such as Currys for instance, may conduct its credit search using the edited register.

I wouldn't have thought so. Currys don't provide the finance themselves but do this through a finance company. Finance companies have access to the full reegister via the credit reference agencies so being on the edited register wouldn't make any difference.

You wouldn't think so, would you? I have no experience of this personally, but local electoral services staff say it causes occasional credit problems. (Obviously they cannot prevent retailers using the edited register if they so wish.)
