Trying to access my mail from my NTLWORLD account using outlook express. I'm trying to do this on my laptop via WLAN. I have followed the set up, included the pop.ntlworld.com, smtp.ntlworld.com, username, password, etc.
When I attempt to recieve mail it automatically attempts to connect via LAN, but after 60 seconds has not had a response from the server. I have looked at the NTL site guide to setting Outlok up and appear to be following it.
Am I doing something obviously wrong? Do I need to set something up other than outlook using my default internet explorer connection?
Starting to really bug me now, help please.
Thanks in advance.

Do you have Norton Internet Security by any chance? I had this exact same problem (except with BT) and as soon as I disabled Norton it all ran fine.0

Just window firewall. My main PC is wired to the router and that works with the same settings. I have just tried the laptop via wire but still nothing. I do have norton but it is not active, I will delete it and then try.
Thanks0 -
Yeah I had almost the same with AVG as when you send an email the virus
scanner would check the mail first meaning that if the smtp cant see
any mail coming through as its being scanned for more that a minute
it will be timed out.
Oh yeah not forgetting to get around this you can Open Outlook Express
then Tools, Accounts, Highlight a email account, then click on Properties
then the Advanced Tab and slide the server time out time upwards.
And if you really need to in there you can also choose
to break apart messages...0 -
I have AVG and switched that off. I have tried to extend the time to 270 secs but no difference.0

To switch of AVG outbound email scanning... (its only a guide)
Start, All Programs, AVG Control Centre, double click e-mail scanner
click on configure now take out tick from "check outgoing mail"0 -
Tried that, still no different. GGGGRRRR.0

Ok it sounds like it could be an NTL problem or a problem
with your smtp/pop settings, do NTL require authentication....0 -
I have set it the same as my pc settings and that works. I haveset it up various times. Do you know if I can download a copy of outlook if I uninstall this one and start from scratch?0

Have you tried checking you can access the email though https://www.mail2web.com to be sure that it is not NTL's problem.0
