Hi i have come across a music site and have put loads of music into the library. It says i can download the windows media player i would like to burn this music to cd i wanted some advice before i did the download

Depends what you mean by safe, there were quite a few vulnerabilities in it and apart from that it's pretty rubbish. You'd be better off with something like winamp and then get a dedicated cd writing program.0

WMP is a legitimate program, though it should have been included with your PC if you run windows. It is fine to download, but I would consider using a reputable download site such as the Windows official site:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/10/default.aspx
You do not need WMP to make music CDs, there are many other programs. Try download.com for safe software.
