whats cheapest ?
I had 2 huge loads of washing today and as it was pouring hard I put some on the clothes airer, but still had lots left over. My question is what would have been cheaper, either to dry it in the tumble dryer or turn the heating on and dry it on the radiators ?

ooohh i dont know good question i usually hang the washing on the rads when the heating is off and hang over charis banisters everywhere really and just keep turning them over so i dont use either if that is not poss maybe just a quick blast in the TD then over a cold radiator to dry over night???0

i tumble dry the shirts t shirts andtrousers and dry the rest in the garage over a line. Most of the tumbled ones dont need ironing if fetched out as soon as dry and hung up. so saving electric. if you dry over rads and on clothes horses with the heating on you still have to iron the clothes. so you are using two lots of electric/gas.Its not how far you fall but how high you bounce back that matters

Dry over a line, preferably wait for better weather, but a bedroom should be fine. If the house is comfortable, you shouldn't really need extra heating.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

If your house feels cold, stick the heating on for a bit. If it doesn't feel cold enough for the heating, use the TD.
I did a wash yesterday morning and hung it up in the bathroom. It stays warmer in there when the heating is off because due to some quirk in the plumbing, when the hot water is on, the radiator gets hot too. However, the washing is still pretty damp 36 hours later.0 -
Hi sue,
You should get more help with this from the regulars on the Gas and Electricity board so I've moved your thread over there.

Live solo, so not too bad, but when not outside on the line , put the clothes on a 'horse' and hang from a hook in the garage.
Then when the heating comes on at 6pm, bring them in and put them near a radiator with a de-humidifier on.
But mostly delay the washing until a drying day.0
