Virgin Media set-top box needs re-booting every day. V+ box an improvement?

Otherwise it fails to collect EPG info, and also tends to hang. I have discussed it with VM customer services, but they don't think it's the box (so logically it's ther service)
Now, I want to upgrade to a V+ box, so we don't need to buy a new DVD recorder. VM are currently charging £75 for this, and there would be no monthly charge, as we currently get their XL package anyway.
But my husband says we should just buy a HDD DVD recorder (£200 for a decent model), because the V+ box will just have the same probs as we currently have.
Anyone got any experience of this?

I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.
