Creda Washing Machine Door - electrics?

About 2 years ago my Son stood on the washing machine door recess, (using it as a step-up to get a cup from a kitchen wall cupboard), and the washer door hinge snapped and the door fell off.
I bought a new hinge and managed to get the door back on.
The washer has been working fine ever since - however, today I couldn't get the washer to fire up when I slammed the door. Intermittently, between my attempts at slamming the door shut I could see a red light flicker - as if the electric was partially, but not fully, connecting.
It drove me mad, and eventually after maybe 30+ slams it finally started!
What can I do?
Do you recommend me removing the door and putting the door bits back in place or what? Thanks in advance.

I guess its a loose connection in the washing machine that makes contact when you 'slam' the door shut as I think there is only a mechanical interlock on the door itself. If you mention the model maybe someone with more in depth knowledge may be able to give you more info.
