IS info please

Hi
have been having to look into IS as my working hours are being reduced to 15 shortly, am currently claiming WTC and CTC but I think I will have to change to IS if my hours go down to 15. I just wondered if someone could clarify a few points, my daughter is 10, does this mean that income support will stop when she reaches 12 ? I am also struggling to pay the mortgage as my ex has just stopped contributing. Under the new rules will I be able to request help with payments ?? if so, is it the full amount or just a certain percentage of the interest that is paid and how long does this carry on for ?

I have tried to find out the answers myself to these questions from various websites but am getting really confused.
any help would be appreciated.
thanks

yes when your daughter reaches the age of 12 you will no longer be able to get I/S on the basis of being a single parent
As for mortgages the situation atm is that you will get all the interest on your mortgage paid after 39 weeks for the first £100,000(at a rate of interest set by the dwp which can vary slightly from your lenders rate) from APRIL NEXT YEAR the waiting period will be reduced to 13 weeks and apply to £175,000 not £100k,on income support once the qualifying period has passed then its on going, but from next year on JSA there will be a 2 year limit
    hope that helps?
  • Hi thanks for the reply,

So does that mean that if IS stops at the age of 12 presumably the help with mortgage would stop at the same time as I would no longer be claiming ? what happens to claims made for IS now , in regards to new rules , does this mean I would be better trying to stick it out and wait until next april to apply?

Also, if I were to start working more than 15 hours again would I then swap back to WTC ??

    thanks

Working under 15 hours means that your wont get any wtc and most likely you wont get any IS either unless your wages are under £60, you best bet is to get another part time job for a few hours a week to take it over 16 hours which will enable you to keep your wtc :)

For those whose children are >12 or who reach 12 between end of October 2008 and end January 2009 will still get IS until the pay day before their first work focused interview after end January. There are specific dates but I can't remember them but think it might be 27th/28th October and same in January.

So if you're not working 16 hours and you're actually capable of work then the only alternative would be to claim JSA by signing on as available for and actively seeking work.

If you've been on IS and then swap to JSA as continuous claim your mortgage payments or waiting days for same will be continuous.
I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too!
