I've been using paypal pretty much since the beginning, and I've just had my first claim from a buyer for goods not received - he didn't think to email me at all first - and really need to vent about how out of order paypal can be in cases like this.
Luckily I have a tracking number for the goods sent, it was to a buyer in Spain and I sent the package registered airmail, so if it's done fairly paypal should rule in my favour. What I am stunned by is that paypal have taken the funds out of my account (the £45 that the buyer paid me) immediately.
The worse thing is that because there was not a sufficient balance in my paypal account (my balance was £35ish, so I was only a tenner short), they have reversed a previous withdrawal of £100 before it has reached my bank account, even though I had a later withdrawal of £50 which would have more than covered the claim. If £100 is deducted from my bank account now, I may well end up going over my account limit, and this will be another level of problems.
More of a vent than seeking advice really, I'm pretty shocked that this is how the system works. I've been using paypal for 6+ years and ebay for 8, have 100% feedback and no previous claims, yet by deducting money from my account they are completely siding with the buyer and it is left to my to prove my innocence, after being presumed guilty. I can't believe the system works like this. Anyone else had any similar experiences?
I'm just thankful I have a tracking receipt, it just goes to show how important this is.

I have had a claim before but never has the money left my account before a decision is made, that sounds more like a chargeback has been filed by the buyer with their bank.
Problem is now is Paypal always assumes the buyer is right and its lucky that people are now sending things recorded. No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

Sorry to break bad news but the tracking number is worthless unless the RM site states that it has been signed for.
To have to prove receipt, not that it's been sent.
Welcome to the wonderful world of paypal.Character is what you have left when you've lost everything you can lose.0

It won't have left the account but merely frozen until the dispute is over.
It's standard paypal practice.Character is what you have left when you've lost everything you can lose.0

you can refund the money to the buyer who send the dispute, then your paypal will work again.

            Hello Sprintstar
This is my first ever post. I just woke up this morning to a message from PayPal saying a buyer has put a dispute in for undelivered baby related goods. Didn't contact me first at all. The money has been removed from my PayPal account and is being held by PayPal. Gutted as this has never happened to me in over 4 years on Ebay.
Checked this guy out and he is unregistered user on Ebay. He has some feedback from another seller that states he has not paid for things (inc. a baby item) even though posted. The poor seller had to put a positive feedback on just to get the text on.
Ebay gave me the option of not honouring his bid but of course he had 100% positive feedback at quick glance and also rather naively I have more faith in people.
Parcel label printed and paid for on Paypal so has my return address on. Where is the parcel if he does not have it then?! 10 working days have elapsed since posting it.
Does anyone else have similar experience? Did the seller get their money back? Really do believe I am being shafted on this one
Sorry for the long rant  - I just feel utterly helpless and am thinking about not trading on Ebay anymore.0

 No tracking.... no chance. Sorry
How awful that ebay gave you the option to back out and you didn't Remember... 100% as a buyer now is meaningless because no-one can neg em! Seems in this case ebay knew more than anyone else would have by looking at his profile. My TV is broken! Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0

Aghhhhh... think I already knew someone would say that.
When these people rip you off it isn't like they are taking money from a big corporation they are taking money from someone who can't afford to lose it.
I do feel stupid though for completing the transaction. Just never had a problem before. Oh well, at least it was only a £20 ish item and not more.
 Thanks for your reply/advice0
