I hate  my current oven...single belling fan oven...it doesn't cook evenly and being a single is very limiting and I wondered what ovens you all have and would you recommend them/buy them again...?

no more oven for me. Remoska every time out of choice. See the remoska thread0

Mine is a New World double oven and its absolute dump..... Cooks hotter than the fires of the sun when on gas 2, bad hot spots and the thermostat in the top oven died after a year. I knew we should have brought my Nannas 60 year old White Rose gas cooker when we moved, everything cooked perfectly in it.0

I'll second what Kittie says! I haven't used my oven now (except for storage) since I got my remoska.Save £12k in 2012 no.49 £10,250/£12,000

I have a Belling Format G (gas)- about 5 years old now. I would buy it again, but then I did a lot of research before I bought it! Glass panels in doors remove for cleaning, double oven - though small top oven is a bit hotter than the dial would have you believe!
I had a 1000w combi microwave which was seriously underused. Technically I should have been able to cook a full roast dinner in it, but it was so difficult to clean, I haven't really missed it since it died on me. Now I use the top oven on my cooker or my tiny 700w microwave instead."Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0 -
Anyone else? You all cook such wonderful hm meals that I thought for sure I would hear more about the tools you use to do the job!!Boo!:rotfl:0

We have an old Flavel gas cooker with eye level grill. The eye level grill is very old fashioned now, and it does slightly get in the way of the back burners and is a bit more work to clean, but for me it's a must have. I really appreciate being able to grill and use the oven at the same time (how else can you make naan bread?), as well as being able to see what is happening inside the grill.
Gas is another must have, I find gas much quicker to heat up, easier to control and cheaper to use. Although you'd have to check the current prices as they have been going up a lot.
I don't find a lot of differences in gas hobs, they all cook much the same. However, gas ovens do vary a lot, and many of the new designs I've encountered have been the worst.
The worst one I used was a very new expensive oven that had some kind of sealed burner, the flame was under a metal panel in the bottom of the oven. The food did cook properly, but nothing would brown in it, which makes it hard to judge how cooked it was and gave disappointing results. Who wants to eat a pasty white bread roll that looks almost raw? And some recipes like pizza taste so much better when the cheese becomes crispy. The other problem with this oven was that because the bottom of the oven was emitting all the heat, anything spilt there burnt terribly, smoked and permanently bonded to the oven.
After this I would only buy an oven with the gas burner inside the oven. I don't see why having it anywhere else would improve the results or efficiency.
I also didn't like electric fan ovens. The temperature difference between the shelves in my oven is useful. I can cook dishes at different temperatures at the same time, and I can use the top shelf where the heat collects to quickly brown things.
As for a microwave, I would honestly be down the garden rubbing sticks together before I got desperate enough to use one of those things! :rotfl:0 -
I have just bought a Belling single fan oven to replace the second hand one I got free...have used Belling fan ovens before and never had a problem with them...everything wears out in time though. How old is your oven, you should not be getting hotspots anywhere, but many people don't get on with fan ovens so maybe I am the exception...have always cooked on electricity so maybe 50 years experience is needed, have bought a gas hob, we'll see how that goes, benefit for me mainly is that you pay for the gas (cylinder) before you use it, and it has a wok burner too.
Not really given you any advice have I? I would say to get someone to check the functioning of the oven, doesn't sound right to me

Oh No floyd! Tell me it's not the New World NW90GS. I've got my eye on that for when I do the kitchen in the house I'm in the process of buying. New World is such an old established name too.0 -
No its not the NW90GS, I don't think they sell ours anymore, it looks a bit like the G60D but has another switch on the right for the light.
Ours is ready for the tip after 4 years, the numbers for gas marks etc all wiped off when we cleaned it using a soft cloth so they are now written on in sharpie marker pen, the thermostat is knackered and will cost too much to fix to be worthwhile and it has something called 'gyroflo' which isn't quite like a fan oven but means that if I set the oven to gas 5 the internal temp is the equivalent of gas 8! I think we were just unlucky with our choice

Well that's a relief but it doesn't instill much confidence. I think I may go to the library and look through the Which magazines
