Leaving work to care for partner

I have asked work for 13 weeks off to care for partner and child whilst she is recovering from a knee op, they said "NO" plain and simple, my only other choice is to hand my notice in.
My partner is on DLA receiveing higher mobility and middle care.
So can i give up work, claim carers allowance and Income support.
We have no alternative as i need to care for my son and partner whilst she is hospital and for atleast 3 months after the op??
Any help??
Cheers all

Yes you can give up work and claim Carers Allowance and Income Support, it is not the same as leaving work and wanting to claim JSA where there may be a sanction.0
