Have I been hacked?

Hi

This morning I had one of those pop-up boxes from the bottom right-hand corner of the screen saying I needed to do a Window up-date. I clicked on it and did the up-date. Later on when I wanted to login to one of my accounts I Kept getting a message that said my Login details were incorrect. I did all the usual things like checking I had put in the right password and that it was in the right case but could still not log in. Has someone hacked into my account and was it because I did the windows update? What can I do? Any help would be very much appreciated.

TIA
Treen

Some Windows updates do do more damage than good! I recently updated my works computer and couldn't access the firms own software or any internet at all  it turned out that a new 'security' setting had been added by the update that didnt like the software or the net  maybe see if you can go back to the previous setting, or change the firewall settings?

Thanks so much for taking the trouble to reply. I will try to do that, I've realised that its not all my accounts just two that I can't log into.

If you go to the windows Update site you can look at your update history. It is highly unlikely that any hack is able to utilize windows updater, but it is always worth looking to see what is being installed.

    Hi
Thanks for your reply. It says I installed Windows Vista Service Pack 1. I still can't log onto the 2 accounts that I mentioned before. Everything else seems to be running ok.

    Ok, couple of possibilities
    1) The update broke something, that is actually unlikely since the sort of things it could break would be unlikely to apply to just 2 account logons
    2) There is a problem with the accounts you are trying to logon to. If they are financial, in my experience it is not uncommon for them to have problems, though they are usually quite good at fixing them too. Any other sort of account and the time to fix it could be anything.

If it were to persist, and it were financial, I would phone up and query the problem.
If it's some other sort of account you could google "problem logging on to xyz" and see if anyone else is complaining on a discussion board or whatever.
